Team Bray unveils new look for Vic's '57
(10-11-2008) KALLANGUR, QLD – Team Bray Racing has revealed the exciting new look for remainder of its 2008-2009 ANDRA Top Doorslammer Championship campaign as the car was unveiled in Bathurst as part on the Supercheap Auto 1000 festivites.
Its unveiling also heralded an extension to Castrol's long term sponsorship of Australian drag racing icon Victor Bray and the expansion of that agreement that will see Victor flying the Castrol flag again in 2009.
"Castrol and Team Bray have evolved together over the past 20 years. The refreshing new livery is a testament to a heritage underpinned by new developments and breakthrough technology. Our latest advancement is to the Castrol EDGE range of engine oils. With new and improved... [Read More]

Castellana cracks five-second barrier with nitrous entry
(10-10-2008) DINWIDDIE, VA – Mike Castellana made a little drag racing history Friday night by becoming the first Pro Mod driver in history to record a five-second pass in a nitrous-assisted doorslammer at a sanctioned race. Competing in the JEGS ProMod Challenge at the third annual Virginia NHRA Nationals, Castellana powered to a 5.963 at 237.84 mph in his Al-Anabi Awesome Motorsports '68 Firebird to thrill the crowd at Virginia Motorsports Park.
"I've known we had the power to make this run for a while," Castellana said. "It was just a matter of time until we did it. Tonight the conditions were exactly what we needed to be the first in the fives. We have been running consistent 6.0s in the heat of the day, so it feels good to final... [Read More]

Humphreys off to slow start at Virginia Nationals
(10-10-2008) DINWIDDIE, VA – At many other stops on the NHRA POWERade Series trail, an elapsed time of 6.628 seconds would have been good enough to put Justin Humphreys solidly in the top 16 Pro Stock entries. That wasn't the case Friday as the Virginia Nationals got underway at Virginia Motorsports Park.
"We're struggling right now," Humphreys said of the RaceRedi Pontiac GXP's performance. "There's definitely something wrong somewhere, and we have to find it by Saturday." His other run was 6.646 seconds.
VMP is less than two hours from Humphreys' home in Monrovia, Md. and he certainly wants to be in the 16-car line-up.
"Frank (Gugliotta, team crew chief) and the guys will be looking for answers ... [Read More]

Point leader Coughlin needing more from his JEGS.com Cobalt
(10-10-2008) DINWIDDIE, VA – Considering the way he's been running lately, Pro Stock point leader Jeg Coughlin Jr. was more than a little surprised to end the first day of qualifying for the third annual Virginia NHRA Nationals in 13th place on the provisional race day grid. It left the 53-time national event winner with one overriding thought -- "Thank God for Saturday qualifying."
Coughlin was eighth after an opening-round pass of 6.609 seconds at 207.75 mph. He slowed slightly to a 6.621 at 207.27 mph in a round where most of his peers improved.
"We're struggling with either an engine problem or an electrical problem, we're just not sure at this point," Coughlin said. "But I can assure you we'll figure it out befo... [Read More]

Pontieri pumped up after track record run in Richmond
(10-10-2008) DINWIDDIE, VA – Pulling out all the stops in an attempt to catch point leader Josh Hernandez and win his first JEGS ProMod Challenge championship, second-ranked racer Tony Pontieri earned provisional low qualifier honors Friday evening during the third annual Virginia NHRA Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park.
Entering the weekend 59 points behind Hernandez, Pontieri crushed both ends of the existing VMP track records set one year ago by Hernandez when he powered his Quality Plus Compressors '57 Bel Air to a stout 5.947 at 242.84 mph. Should the time hold through Saturday's final time trial, Pontieri will slightly close the gap on Hernandez and will become the favorite to win the race Sunday. Hernandez qualified a distant ... Jim Halsey makes nitrous history
(10-10-2008) STREET, MD - Jim Halsey laughingly confessed once that "Scoreboards were the worst thing ever invented for drag racing." "I felt that way right up until last Saturday," laughed Halsey. After a historic qualifying blast in Englishtown, NJ rang out the first 5.99 in the history of nitrous Pro Mods last weekend, it is in fact a "scoreboard" that will forever define Jim Halsey's Pro Modified drag racing career.
The race for the fives ended at Englishtown NJ's Old Bridge Township Raceway Park on Saturday, October 4. On the second of 3 qualifying sessions scheduled at the Al-Anabi Racing - sponsored Shakedown at E-Town, Halsey's 1968 Camaro launched from the starting line of the right-hand lane, and into the record books forever.... Ken Regenthal scores two wins in three days
(10-9-2008) RADFORD, VA – Ken Regenthal’s famed bright yellow Carolina Hooker '63 Corvette sat in victory lane twice in 3 days last weekend. The Clemmons, NC native won the consolation race at the Big Dog Shootout on October the 2nd at Piedmont Dragway and then backed it up with a victory just 2 short days later at the Mean 16 at Motor Mile Dragway.
"The car ran great, just like bracket car all day. It went down the track every time as straight as an arrow except once when during the second round of qualifying. The main power wire to the master shutoff burnt up and we lost power. We went four 4.30's and one 4.31, we couldn’t have asked for better," said Ken.
When qualifying was all said and done Jerry Williams' Ford Pro... [Read More]
